Leukorrhea is a medical term for a thick white discharge that can be whitish-yellowish in appearance. The vaginal canal serves as a conduit between the woman's external body and her internal reproductive organs. The pH of the vaginal fluid is acidic, which inhibits the spread of infections. Normal microorganisms that grow within the vaginal canal thrive in this acidic environment. A healthy vagina releases discharges to clean and regulate itself, similar to how saliva cleans and regulates the mouth cavity's environment. Any disruption of the delicate balance of vaginal secretions promotes the creation of an infection-friendly environment.
What Causes Leucorrhoea and How Can It Be Treated?
When this happens, there are several causes, the most common of which is a hormonal (oestrogen) imbalance. When vaginal infections or STDs are present, the amount of discharge produced can rise, and it can disappear and reappear on occasion. It can also be a non-pathological sign of inflammatory vaginal or cervix disorders.
